A pale shrimpgoby covered in yellow spots, with five narrow red diagonal bands, a red patch at the corner of the mouth, and no red markings on the second dorsal fin. They are medium sized and grow to 8 cm long. The Redband Shrimpgoby is often confused with the Burgundy Shrimpgoby.

Similar Species
Differs from the Burgundy Shrimpgoby, Amblyeleotris wheeleri, in having narrower bands and lacking red markings on the second dorsal fin.
Natural History
Habitat
Found at a depth of 2m on coarse sand flat 50 m from coral reef on the sheltered leeward side of South Herald Cay, in the Coral Sea.
Elsewhere they are recorded from deeper water from 4-20 m.
Behaviour
We have only encountered this species on two occassions at South Herald Cay. We observed them sitting at the burrow entrance but we did not see their partner shrimps.

Micronesia,Pohnpei Island, Kwajalein, Bikini and Majuro Atolls
Indonesia Bali and northern Sulawesi.
